Sri Lanka Population

Sri Lanka country is in Indian Ocean, and was under British rule for long time; it was before gaining its independence in 1948. Population amount of Sri Lanka is 19.7 million with annual growth rate 1.1%. Capital city of Sri Lanka is Colombo, with its tropical climate. Population is very important factor, which lends the better understanding of Geography of Sri Lanka. Populating of Sri Lanka deals with important features of its population. Total population is estimated as 20,962,315 and it is so important to know about population rate or growth which is about 0.982% according to a private census,

 

it is also important to note about rate of growth that is higher in northeastern and southwestern parts of country.

Estimated birth rate in Sri Lanka is 17 births at per 1,000 population and death rate is 6 deaths as per 1,000 populations, migrant are 1.16 as per 1000 and net migration rate is also important affecting population of Sri Lanka.

 

Maximum Expectancy rate of life is 78.8% yearly while total rate of Mortality is 19.45%. Sinhalese are the dominant inhabitant of country, which make up the higher population of Sri Lanka. Remaining population part consists Tamil of Sri Lanka, Indian Tamil. Language that most of the population uses to communicate is Sinhala, Dravidian and Tamil language. Population of Sri Lanka is also considered as fast growing in world.

 

In Colombo there is also heavy concentration of Singhalese people. Tamil from India from in other part of country, which form about 5% of total Sri Lankan population. Indian Tamil are found in "tea county" that is in south central Sri Lanka. In Sri Lanka Muslims form around 7% of population. Muslims are scattered over island. Some other components are also there like burghers, and aboriginal Veddahs. Population of Sri Lanka is practicing Sri Lankan, Hindus, Sunni Muslims and Muslims; there are Christians also as well as some Catholic Roman.
